Dzisiaj krótko o „Diabłu Łańcuckim” Jacka Komudy w formie audiobooka. Sama po tę książkę bym nie sięgnęła, gdyby nie fakt, że kupiłam ją w ramach kolekcji „Mistrzowie Polskiej Fantastyki”. Powieści historyczne to niekoniecznie moja bajka, a po wcześniejszych doświadczeniach ze „Zborowskim” wiem, że czytanie ich idzie mi wyjątkowo topornie. Przez brak znajomości wielu słów, nie jestem w stanie złapać odpowiedniej płynności historii, by prawdziwie się nią cieszyć. Tu z pomocą przychodzą audiobooki!

„Diabeł Łańcucki” to historia konfliktów pana na łańcuckim zamku ze szlachtą Ziemi Sanockiej i Przemyskiej. Zajazdy, najazdy, porwania, tortury – nie bez powodu nazywają go Diabłem, a zamek Piekłem. Jacek Komuda zabiera nas do XVII-wiecznych wielokulturowych Bieszczad na dziką przygodę pełną bijatyk i rozróby. Lektor audiobooka, Roch Siemianowski, w fenomenalny sposób powołuje postacie do życia, nadając im charakter, którego spodziewałabym się po wojowniczej polskiej szlachcie. Słuchając na przyspieszeniu miałam wrażenie, że historia rozgrywa się przede mną jak film. Płynna i dynamiczna. Mnogość postaci i ich imion może trochę mieszać człowiekowi w głowie, a nieznajomość niektórych wyrażeń czy określeń sprawiać dyskomfort. Czytając, nie byłabym w stanie się przez taką mieszankę przedrzeć, wiecznie utykałabym na niezrozumiałym słowianictwie i usiłowała rozłożyć je na części pierwsze, by w ogóle przeczytać, a co dopiero nadać mu sens. Audiobook te problemy za mnie rozwiązał, a znaczenia mogłam próbować wyłapać z kontekstu.

Sama historia mnie odrobinę zaskoczyła. Muszę przyznać, że nie zapoznałam się z opisem powieści przed jej włączeniem, więc gdy zaczęłam słuchać, niepoprawnie założyłam, o czym jest książka. Zaskoczenie nie było nieprzyjemne, a po zapoznaniu się z całą historią jestem z niej zadowolona. Sama końcówka sprawiła, że zanosiłam się śmiechem. Język używany przez Komudę jest niezwykle barwny i zawiły w pozytywny sposób – np. przy opisach kobiecych wdzięków – kolejny z elementów, który uznałam za komiczny.

Dobrze spędziłam czas z audiobookiem „Diabła Łańcuckiego” i polecam go również Wam. Dla mnie bonusem był też fakt, że historia jest osadzona w okolicach moich rodzinnych stron, jako że pochodzę z Przemyśla.

Today, a brief overview of ‚The Devil of Łańcut’ by Jacek Komuda in the form of an audiobook. I wouldn’t have picked up this book on my own if it weren’t for the fact that I bought it as part of the ‚Masters of Polish Fantasy’ collection. Historical novels are not necessarily my cup of tea, and after previous experiences with ‚Zborowski’, I know that reading them is quite cumbersome for me. Due to a lack of familiarity with many words, I am unable to grasp the fluidity of the story to truly enjoy it. This is where audiobooks come to the rescue!

‚The Devil of Łańcut’ tells the story of conflicts between the lord of Łańcut Castle and the nobility of the Sanok and Przemyśl region. Inns, raids, abductions, tortures – not without reason do they call him the Devil, and the castle, Hell. Jacek Komuda takes us to the multicultural Bieszczady Mountains of the 17th century for a wild adventure full of brawls and chaos. The audiobook narrator, Roch Siemianowski, brings the characters to life in a phenomenal way, giving them the character I would expect from the formidable Polish nobility. Listening on fast forward, I had the impression that the story was unfolding before me like a movie – smooth and dynamic. The multitude of characters and their names may confuse a person, and the lack of knowledge of some expressions or terms may cause discomfort. Reading, I wouldn’t be able to push through such a mixture; I would perpetually stumble on incomprehensible Slavic words and try to break them down into first parts just to read them at all, let alone make sense of them. The audiobook solved these problems for me, and I could try to catch the meanings from the context.

The story itself surprised me a bit. I must admit that I did not read the description of the novel before starting it, so when I began listening, I incorrectly assumed what the book was about. The surprise wasn’t unpleasant, and after acquainting myself with the whole story, I am satisfied with it. The ending itself made me burst into laughter. The language used by Komuda is incredibly vivid and intricate in a positive way – for example, in the descriptions of feminine charms – another element that I found comical.

The time spent with the audiobook ‚The Devil of Łańcut’ I consider well spent and I also recommend it to you. For me, the bonus was the fact that the story is set in the vicinity of my family’s roots, as I come from Przemyśl.
