Pierwszy tom tej serii jednotomówek był pierwszą moją dziesiątką w tym roku, więc miałam ogromne oczekiwania względem drugiego! I wypatrywałam i wypatrywałam… i udało mi się przeoczyć zapisy na ARC 🤦‍♀️. Całe szczęście autorka jest cudowną osobą i dodała mnie do listy po fakcie. Tak więc, Shay Taylor – dziękuję za e-ARC do recenzji!

Z jednej strony mamy tutaj niezależne historie, bo każdy z tomów to historia osobnej pary, ale w pojawiają się odniesienia do wydarzeń z poprzedniego tomu, więc zdecydowanie zalecam czytanie książek po kolei. Pojawiają się też poznane już wcześniej postacie i robią trochę zamieszania. a co więcej rzucone jest na nie zupełnie nowe światło.

Historia Calluma nie weszła mi tak intensywnie jak ta Morrigan w „Shadows of the Gods”, ale wciąż bawiłam się bardzo dobrze, a i trochę pociągania nosem się znalazło – zarówno nad losem Calluma, jak i Lanie. Nie mam pojęcia, jak Shay Taylor to robi, że jestem emocjonalnym wrakiem przy czytaniu jej książek.

To, co mi się mega podoba, to fakt, że bohaterowie obu tomów zmagają się z solidnymi problemami (np. OCD u Calluma), a mimo to odnajdują nową rodzinę i akceptację u partnerów – ze wszystkimi swoimi wadami i niedoskonałościami.

Fabularnie też nie mogę narzekać – Callum musi zdecydować, czy chce dołączyć do rodzinnego biznesu, czy jednak wybrać prześladującą go boginię – i wszystko to na tle większej afery.

Dostajemy też zapowiedź kolejnej pary i zanosi się na wybuchową mieszankę! Bo jak inaczej określić parę: kapłanka uważająca pożądanie za wszelkie zło i przeznaczony jej bóg pożądania?

P.S. Uwielbiam fakt, że pojawiło się odniesienie do głosów Morrigan – chciałabym je „usłyszeć” – ale fakt, że Śmierć zwrócił się do nich bezpośrednio jest chyba nawet lepszą perełką.

The first book in this standalone series was my very first 10/10 of the year, so of course my expectations for book two were sky-high! I kept waiting and waiting… and then somehow completely missed the ARC sign-ups 🤦‍♀️. Thankfully, the author is absolutely lovely and added me to the list afterward. Huge thanks to Shay Taylor for the e-ARC!

Each installment tells its own story, since every book focuses on a different couple, but there are plenty of references to earlier events. For that reason, I’d definitely recommend reading the series in order. Familiar faces also pop up and stir up a bit of chaos, which I loved. We also get to see them in a new light!

Callum’s story didn’t hit me quite as hard as Morrigan’s in Shadows of the Gods, but I still had a fantastic time reading – and yes, I’ve been a sobbing mess over the fates of both Callum and Lanie. I honestly don’t know how Shay Taylor does it, but she turns me into an emotional wreck every time.

One of my favorite aspects of this series is how both sets of main characters grapple with serious issues (example – Callum’s OCD) yet still manage to find new family and acceptance in their partners – flaws, scars, and all.

The plot also delivers: Callum is torn between joining the family business or choosing the stalker goddess, all while a larger plot brews in the background.

And then there’s the tease for the next couple – it looks like it’s going to be explosive! I mean, how else can you describe a priestess who believes desire is the ultimate sin paired with the god of desire himself?

P.S. I loved the nod to Morrigan’s voices – I’d love to “hear” them – but the fact that Death spoke to them directly might be even better.
