QOTD: Zastanawialiście się kiedyś, co by się stało, gdyby Bella nie wróciła do Bestii, a on postanowił odnaleźć ją sam, zanim klątwa stanie się permanentna?

Na takie pytanie postanowiła odpowiedzieć Kate King w A Thorn in Every Heart. Minęło 60 lat od chwili, gdy Bella opuściła Bestię. Za miesiąc klątwa stanie się nieodwracalna, jednak wysłany po ukochaną człowiek odnajduje… wnuczkę Isabelli. No co może pójść źle?!

A Thorn in Every Heart to bardzo przyjemne romansidło osadzone w bajkowym świecie fae — i to w moim ulubionym wydaniu: „nie powinniśmy, ale nie potrafię przestać o tobie myśleć”. Twist na znaną nam z Pięknej i Bestii klątwę jest naprawdę ciekawy i zdecydowanie mroczniejszy. Dla mnie — o wiele lepszy niż zamiana w sprzęty domowe.

Ogromnym plusem historii jest główna bohaterka — niemal 30-letnia kobieta porwana do magicznego świata, z bagażem doświadczeń, kompleksów i traum do przepracowania. Bardzo miła odmiana od nastoletnich protagonistek.

Jeśli mam się do czegoś przyczepić, to właściwie tylko do jednego: literówek. Ugh… Nie wiem, czy to kwestia mojego wydania (Moonlight Book Box), czy książka tak została wydana, ale strasznie mnie to irytowało. Wszelkie błędy wybijają mnie z rytmu, a jak je widzę, to aż mnie telepie.

Ale ogólnie — A Thorn in Every Heart okazało się dla mnie bardzo przyjemną, wciągającą i relaksującą lekturą. Dostałam romans, jaki lubię, trochę akcji, fajny twist z dobrze znaną baśnią i styl, dzięki któremu dosłownie płynęłam przez historię (pomijając błędy 😑). Z przyjemnością sięgnę po kolejne tomy z tej serii jednotomówek, tym bardziej że miałam już okazję poznać bohaterów drugiego tomu i jestem ich mega ciekawa!

Kate King explores this idea in A Thorn in Every Heart. Sixty years have passed since Belle left the Beast. In just one month, the curse will become irreversible. However, the man sent to find his beloved doesn’t find Belle… he finds Isabella’s granddaughter instead. And honestly—what could possibly go wrong?

A Thorn in Every Heart is a very enjoyable romantic fantasy set in a fairytale world full of fae —my absolute favourite kind: “we shouldn’t, but I can’t stop thinking about you.” The twist on the well-known Beauty and the Beast curse is genuinely interesting and much darker. Personally, I liked it far more than the whole “turning into household objects” situation.

One of the biggest strengths of this story is the main character—a nearly 30-year-old woman dragged into a magical world, carrying emotional baggage, insecurities, and trauma she actually has to work through. A very refreshing change from teenage heroines.

If I had one complaint, it would be this: typos. Ugh. I honestly don’t know whether it’s an issue with my edition (Moonlight Book Box) or the book itself, but they really bothered me. Typos completely pull me out of the story, and once I notice them, I can’t unsee them.

That said, overall, A Thorn in Every Heart turned out to be a very pleasant, engaging, and relaxing read. I got the kind of romance I enjoy, some action, a fun twist on a classic fairytale, and a writing style that made me breeze through the story (typos aside 😑). I’ll happily pick up the next standalone books in this series, especially since I’ve already met the characters from book two, and I’m very intrigued.
