🇵🇱 QOTD: Jakie jest Wasze ostatnie książkowe rozczarowanie?

The Rose Bargain obiecywało wszystko, co teoretycznie powinno mi się spodobać: netflixowych Bridgertonów, Rywalek Kiery Cass i fae w tej bardziej złośliwej odsłonie. Tymczasem książka dostała ode mnie 3/10, więc… co poszło nie tak?

Przede wszystkim – ja tę książkę zwyczajnie męczyłam. Do tego stopnia, że gdzieś w połowie serio rozważałam DNF. Dałam się jednak namówić, żeby spróbować jeszcze raz, bo może to po prostu nie był odpowiedni moment i humor. Eee… nie. To nie była kwestia humoru, tylko dwóch absolutnie kluczowych elementów: fabuły i głównej bohaterki.

Fabularnie ta książka praktycznie niczym nie zaskakuje. Plot twist na końcu? Jaki plot twist, skoro wszystko było boleśnie oczywiste. Może nie każdy szczegół, ale ogólny kierunek wydarzeń – jak najbardziej. I jasne, książka nie musi być odkrywcza ani przełomowa. Może być nawet odgrzewanym kotletem, jeśli ma inne elementy, które trzymają czytelnika przy lekturze. Najczęściej są to bohaterowie…

No i tutaj dochodzimy do Ivy – jednej z najbardziej irytujących bohaterek, z jakimi miałam do czynienia od dawna. Naiwna, rozpieszczona, wychuchana i roszczeniowa do granic możliwości. Dziewczyno, ty teoretycznie jesteś już dorosła! Miałaś debiut w społeczeństwie! A mimo to dostajemy prawie 400 stron narzekania na siostrę, bo – uwaga – nie wyszła za mąż i nie zapewniła jej wygodnego życia bez odpowiedzialności 😐

Ale to nie wszystko. Ivy opiera te roszczenia na obietnicy złożonej sobie w dzieciństwie 🤦‍♀️ i jeszcze ma pretensje, że to ona musiała wziąć odpowiedzialność za cokolwiek. Myślę, że najlepiej o skali mojej irytacji świadczy fakt, że pisząc tę recenzję i wracając myślami do jej zachowania, znowu się wkurzam 😤

Moim zdaniem postać Ivy zwyczajnie zarżnęła tę książkę. Potencjał był – pomysł i inspiracje są naprawdę fajne – ale wszystko rozbija się o fatalnie poprowadzoną bohaterkę. Nie polecam, drugiego tomu nie tknę nawet kijem i szczerze żałuję czasu, który na tę historię zmarnowałam. Zdecydowanie zbyt YA jak na moje gusta.

🇬🇧 QOTD: What was your last reading disappointment?

The Rose Bargain promised everything I usually love: Netflix-style Bridgertons vibes, The Selection by Kiera Cass, and fae in their more mischievous version. Instead, it ended up as a 3/10 read for me… so what went wrong?

First of all – I struggled with this book. So much so that around the halfway point I seriously considered DNFing it. I was convinced to give it another chance, thinking maybe it was just my mood. Nope. Definitely not a mood issue, but a problem with two key elements: the plot and the main character.

Plot-wise, this book offers very few surprises. The big twist at the end? What twist? It was painfully obvious. Maybe not every tiny detail, but the general direction of the story was crystal clear. And sure, a book doesn’t have to be groundbreaking. It can be a familiar trope-filled story as long as something else keeps you engaged – usually the characters…

And that brings us to Ivy – one of the most irritating protagonists I’ve read about in a long time. Naive, spoiled, coddled, and incredibly entitled. Girl, you’re supposedly an adult! You’ve already had your society debut! Yet we get nearly 400 pages of her complaining about her sister because – brace yourselves – she didn’t get married and secure Ivy a comfortable, responsibility-free life 😐

But wait, there’s more. Ivy bases all these expectations on a promise they made as children 🤦‍♀️ and then has the audacity to complain that she’s the one who had to take responsibility for anything at all. Honestly, the fact that I’m getting annoyed again just thinking about her behavior while writing this review says everything 😤

In my opinion, Ivy as a character completely ruined this book. The potential was there – the concept and inspirations are genuinely interesting – but the execution, especially of the main character, killed it. I don’t recommend it, I won’t touch the second book, and I truly regret the time I wasted on this one. That was waaaay to YA for my tastes.
